I posted the video of this song on my Facebook…got a bit of a response. I’ve some comments to make in regard to that, but for now, here are the lyrics. The Song was Written by XTC.
Dear God
Dear god,
Hope you got the letter,
And I pray you can make it better down here.
I don’t mean a big reduction in the price of beer,
But all the people that you made in your image,
See them starving on their feet,
cause they don’t get enough to eat
From god,
I cant believe in you.
Dear god,
Sorry to disturb you,
But I feel that I should be heard loud and clear.
We all need a big reduction in amount of tears,
And all the people that you made in your image,
See them fighting in the street,
cause they cant make opinions meet,
About god,
I cant believe in you.
Did you make disease, and the diamond blue?
Did you make mankind after we made you?
And the devil too!
Dear god,
Don’t know if you noticed,
But your name is on a lot of quotes in this book.
Us crazy humans wrote it, you should take a look,
And all the people that you made in your image,
Still believing that junk is true.
Well I know it aint and so do you,
Dear god,
I can’t believe in,
I don’t believe in,
I wont believe in heaven and hell.
No saints, no sinners,
No devil as well.
No pearly gates, no thorny crown.
You’re always letting us humans down.
The wars you bring, the babes you drown.
Those lost at sea and never found,
And its the same the whole world round.
The hurt I see helps to compound,
That the father, son and holy ghost,
Is just somebody’s unholy hoax,
And if you’re up there you’ll perceive,
That my hearts here upon my sleeve.
If there’s one thing I don’t believe in…
Its you,
Dear god.

Barbara,
I’m going through my own spiritual/religious (perhaps post-religious) journey right now, and I have no idea where it will lead. I’ve been frequenting the blogs of many who are or have done the same, which led me to yours. Another song that’s been humming through my head is the song “God” by John Lennon. Have you heard that one?
God is a concept,
By which we can measure,
Our pain,
I’ll say it again,
God is a concept,
By which we can measure,
Our pain,
I don’t believe in magic,
I don’t believe in I-ching,
I don’t believe in bible,
I don’t believe in tarot,
I don’t believe in Hitler,
I don’t believe in Jesus,
I don’t believe in Kennedy,
I don’t believe in Buddha,
I don’t believe in mantra,
I don’t believe in Gita,
I don’t believe in yoga,
I don’t believe in kings,
I don’t believe in Elvis,
I don’t believe in Zimmerman,
I don’t believe in Beatles,
I just believe in me,
Yoko and me,
And that’s reality.
The dream is over,
What can I say?
The dream is over,
Yesterday,
I was dreamweaver,
But now I’m reborn,
I was the walrus,
But now I’m John,
And so dear friends,
You just have to carry on,
The dream is over.
The part that resonates with me most is:
The dream is over,
What can I say?
The dream is over,
Yesterday,
I was dreamweaver
But now I’m reborn…
And so dear friends,
You just have to carry on,
The dream is over.

Wow! I don’t think I’ve ever heard that song before, and if I did, I didn’t pay attention to the lyrics. They are very powerful and speak to me as well. Good luck on your journey and stop by anytime. If there is anything at all that I can do to encourage you, please let me know. There were those who were and still are there for me…I’m a true believer in paying it forward. Have a great Funday [that's what I call Sunday now
